Flu Vaccination for Children

by adminim

We are starting to see a number of cases of influenza in children in the local community.

To offer the best protection against influenza, the HSE recommend a flu vaccine for all children. For children aged 2-17, a nasal flu vaccine is available in the practice. This is well tolerated by most children and involves a quick spray into each nostril.

If a child has not previously had a flu vaccine, and is younger than 9 years, 2 doses are recommended, one month apart.

Children’s’ flu vaccines are available by appointment with our nurse.

Free Contraception Scheme extended from January 2023

by adminim

We are pleased to advise that the HSE’s Free Contraception scheme, first announced in September 2022 for women aged 17-25, will be extended from January 1st, 2023 to include all women aged 26.

This means that women aged 17-26 will be able to avail of free contraception consultations with one of our GPs, as well as free fitting of Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) options, which include:

  • Mirena / Kyleena coils
  • Implanon (“bar”)
  • Depo injections

The scheme covers the cost of the above devices, and also covers the cost of contraceptive pills (“Combined pill” or “Mini pill”) for all eligible women.

When booking your GP appointment, please mention that you are booking a Contraception consultation. Further information on your options is available on the HSE’s website.

Covid Vaccination Update

by admin_im

In line with HSE recommendations, we have replaced our Covid vaccines and now supply “Adapted” vaccines, which provide additional protection against the Omicron variant circulating at present.

These new vaccines are supplied by both Pfizer and Moderna, both of which are supplied in the surgery, and are suitable for those patients seeking booster vaccines. They are not suitable for those looking for their first or second (primary course) vaccines – these are available through the HSE’s Covid Vaccination Centres.

Boosters are available to those whose last booster was more than 4 months ago, and who haven’t had a covid infection in the last 4 months.

Covid boosters are available on a regular basis at the surgery – please email info@inchicoremedical.ie, contact us through our webforms or phone the surgery to enquire.

Further information on boosters can be found on the HSE website
